The location of Salla is excellent at Lapland’s gate to the east, along main road 82, which takes you to Salla’s international border crossing. The road creates a connection to Russia’s Murmansk region and continues to St. Petersburg, Moscow, and all the way to the Far East.

We build and maintain international connections. We are promoting the Rail Arctica railway connection, i.e. the Salla-Kandalaksha line, which would connect the Finnish railway network with the Russian railway network, and at the same time would create a connection to the Arctic Ocean and the Northeast Passage.

Salla’s strengths are the unique and wild nature, as well as the diverse natural resources. Our basic services are of high quality, and the municipality’s interesting history, strong culture, and diverse recreational services provide a supportive base for dynamism. These give a good basis for further developing both the growing tourism industry and other livelihoods.

The cooperation between entrepreneurs and the municipality works very well. Together, we reinforce the vitality, internationalism, networks, and operations for businesses of the municipality.

The largest employers are the municipality of Salla, the tourism businesses of the Sallatunturi region, and the Border Guard and Customs Services. The rural livelihoods of forestry, reindeer herding, and agriculture employ a significant number of people. The service industry is the most important employer of the economic structure.
