Salla international border crossing

The international border crossing at Salla connects Finland and the European Union with Russia. It constitutes a major logistical link to the Arctic Ocean and the Northeast Passage, and the rail networks of Russia and the Far East, for business and tourism.

The opening of the border has meant that the municipality of Salla has strengthened its local collaboration, facilitating the interaction of citizens and increasing the number of Russian customers using local businesses, services, and accommodation. The border crossing was opened in 2002.

The Kola region has roughly one million inhabitants and strong industrial centres. Therefore, it’s a strong potential market for the business life of Salla.

Statistical data on monthly crossings is available on the Lapland Border Guard District’s website.
