Come and revitalise yourself at the Salla library!

The Salla library is a community living room for the residents of the municipality and a place enjoyed by tourists. The Salla library was voted as the people’s favourite library in Finland in 2018.

The library has books, newspapers, magazines, music, digital materials, electronic magazines and databases. You can explore the materials at the library or borrow them to take home. Material is also available in languages other than Finnish.

At the library premises, you can study, work, enjoy your hobbies, and hang out. Events and exhibitions are also held there.

A wireless network and computers are available. The staff is there to assist with all materials and services. You can take a relaxing break in the massage chair.

The library also loans fitness equipment, such as a balance board and a core twister board. There are also massage rollers and a massage hooks available.

The Salla library has extensive electronic services. You can read thousands of different digital newspapers from Finland and around the world and choose music from a selection of tens of thousands of albums.

You will have access to the national online library services at libraries.fi and the finna.fi service of the National Library of Finland. We recommend using them! Through your own library, you can also order works from the Multilingual Library and the Celia Library for people with visual impairment.

The Salla library was built in 1993. Its façade was inspired by an open book and it has a comfortable and functional interior.

Information retrieval

The Salla library belongs to the Lappi Library group. Using the same card, it is possible to borrow and reserve materials from all the municipal and city libraries in Lapland.

By requesting a PIN code for your library card, you can renew your loans, make reservations, and review your own lending information online at lapinkirjasto.finna.fi.

Study space

The library has a small room, where you can study or work in your own privacy. A computer and printer are available. Reserve the space from the library info desk. If the space is available, you can use it immediately. The space can also be used during the self-service opening hours.

Self-service library

Salla has a self-service library, which can also be accessed outside of the actual opening hours, every day from 7–20, including public holidays. Access requires a library card and a PIN code.

The librarian assigns a PIN code to your card and advises you how to access and other necessary things. The library has an automated machine for returning and borrowing materials.

Library card

Library services are available with a library card. The card is needed when borrowing, renewing loans, and making reservations, among other things.

The card is personal and the person for whom it has been issued is responsible for all loans made with the card (a guardian is responsible for people under 15). The first library card is free.

When applying for a library card, you must prove your identity and, for people under 15, the identity of a guardian. The library card is valid in all Lapland libraries.
